The ATLAS Project Playlists!

I can't write without music in the background. Whether it's a Youtube writing playlist, Pandora, or Spotify, I have to have something playing while I type. That's why I created Spotify playlists inspired by three key characters in my novel: Barin Johnson, Masia Halloway, and Kristy Johnson. Each song was chosen based on the character's experiences, personality, and challenges in the book.

Note: I tried to find radio edits for songs as much as possible, but these playlists do contain occasional strong language that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Access the Spotify playlists here:

Barin's Playlist

Masia's Playlist

Kristy's Playlist

Barin's playlist highlights his journey in the novel. Panic at the Disco's "High Hopes" is reminiscent of Barin's dreams of future success despite his circumstances. Songs of wealth and glamor, such as Wheezer's "Beverly Hills," Lorde's "Royals," and Ayo & Teo's "Rolex" showcase his time in the ATLAS complex before he uncovered the dark truth. Eminem's "The Monster" highlights the time he enjoyed the grandeur of the complex and was completely unaware of the danger. Songs such as Taylor Swift's "You Belong with Me" and Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" showcase Barin's romantic feelings for his best friend, Masia Halloway. The remainder of the playlist, including Skillet's "It's Not Me, It's You" and P.O.D's "Youth of the Nation" highlight Barin's fight against ATLAS and his desperate escape from their clutches.

Masia's playlist is all about girl power! From Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)" to Rachel Platten's "Fight Song," this playlist highlights Masia's rise to a hero. Songs like Imagine Dragon's "Radioactive" and the Cranberries' "Zombie" represent the deterioration of Masia's world after the ATLAS's cyber attack sends the world dark. Jax's "Like My Father" reminds me of Masia's parents and the example they left behind for their daughter.

Kristy's playlist is all about her journey as a single mother. Songs such as Red Jumpsuit Apparatus's "Face Down" and Reba McEntire/Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You" are reminiscent of Kristy's decision to leave her unhealthy relationship with Barin's father. "I Dreamed and Dream" from Les Miserables and Clean Bandit's "Rockabye" are representative of her first years as a struggling teenage mother. Songs of survival, such as Christina Aguilera's "Fighter" and Pink's "F**kin' Perfect" (Radio Edit) show Kristy's grit and determination, even while songs such as Hank William Jr.'s "Red, White, & Pink Slip Blues" showcase her challenges.

Enjoy these playlists! If you have a song recommendation to add to any of these playlists, please leave them in a comment below.
